Passengers Take A Piece Of Ponty Where They Go

A talented photographer is now enjoying seeing his picture of Pontypridd’s iconic Old Bridge travelling around the county borough! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Tourism and Libraries teams joined forces with Stagecoach to celebrate the outstanding natural beauty and fascinating history and heritage of the county borough in a photographic competition. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The winner of the competition, Stephen Lindsay, of Church Village, can now proudly see his beautiful shot of William Edwards’ 200-year-old Old Bridge, which was once the largest single span bridge in the world, on local Stagecoach buses. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Stephen, who recently retired from the National Grid, has always enjoyed photography as a hobby and is now pleased to be able to spend more time focusing on his interests. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

While he really enjoys wildlife photography and is a keen member of Cardiff and Gwynfa Camera Clubs, Stephen says the Old Bridge is a wonderful sight to photograph. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He said: “When I saw the competition advertised in my local library, I was keen to enter so went on a walk around town and took a range of pictures. It was the one of the Old Bridge which stood out, so I decided that would be my entry. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It was good to win and it is quite exciting to see my work touring the county borough in a Stagecoach bus!” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Joy Rosser, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Libraries and Heritage, said: “Congratulations to Stephen on his beautiful photograph and a huge thank you to all of the photographers who caught the beauty of our county borough on film for the competition. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Rhondda Cynon Taf has beauty, history and heritage around every corner, which is why we chose to celebrate it in this competition. I hope this encourages other people to open their eyes to the beauty and history that surrounds them.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
