Plans To Redevelop The Former Taff Vale Precinct Site
As part of the Council’s plans to redevelop the former Taff Vale precinct site, ground investigation works are set to take place this week.
With outline planning permission sought in August, the ground investigation works are the next step in the process of bringing this key site back into use.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Tourism and Planning, Councillor Robert Bevan, said: “By taking a decision to invest £1.5M to purchase the leasehold of the site, the Council is firmly in the driving seat of the site’s redevelopment and we have already seen positive progress being made.
“The unique three building design has the potential to open up the town to the river and park and transform how the town centre interacts with this huge asset. This development is incredibly exciting for Pontypridd and the County Borough as whole with the potential for increased employment opportunities.
“As the next important step in the process, the ground investigations being carried out this week will provide reassurance that work continues to go on behind the scenes with the redevelopment of this key site.”
Work taking place includes trench excavation in four areas around the perimeter of the site in Crossbrook Street, Taff Street and Bridge Street and it is anticipated that work will commence on Tuesday 11th October and be completed on Thursday 13th October.
The contractors will endeavour to keep the footpath open although this will be dependent on ground conditions and the potential requirement to widen the trenches. Should the footpath need closing, pedestrian diversion signs will be placed to inform the public.
