Exciting plans to redevelop the former Taff Vale precinct site in Pontypridd have taken a major step forward this week with the granting of outline planning permission.
The Council has granted outline planning permission to bring the key site in the town centre back into use. Following this decision, Council Cabinet Member Robert Bevan has confirmed that Cabinet will consider detail proposals to take the development forward to the next stage
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Tourism and Planning, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “The granting of outline planning permission for this redevelopment is a major step forward as the Council seeks to bring this site back into use.
“This decision by the Council’s Development Control Committee brings the redevelopment of the former Taff Vale site a stage closer.
“The swift progress is securing outline permission demonstrates, how different progress is compared to previous development proposals for the site, as the Council is one hundred percent committed to make our aspirations for the site a reality.
“Cabinet will consider proposals to deliver this redevelopment for Pontypridd in the coming weeks; with a range of models possible to ensure we make this proposal, which now has planning consent a reality.
“The options which will be detailed demonstrate how we can bring this scheme to fruition for Pontypridd in the near future.
“By taking a decision to invest £1.5m to purchase the leasehold of the site, the Council is firmly in the driving seat of this redevelopment and the unique three building design has the potential to open up the town to the river and park and transform how the town centre interacts with this huge asset.
“This development is incredibly exciting for Pontypridd and the County Borough as whole with the potential for increased employment opportunities.
“With outline planning permission now granted, this will provide reassurance that work continues to go on behind the scenes with the redevelopment of this key site.”
