Redevelopment work at Tonypandy Community College continues this week as part of the Council’s £85m investment in schools in Rhondda and Tonyrefail. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The works, which started in July, 2016, include a new all-weather 3G sports pitch, along with the refurbishment of the former tennis courts to create a new multi-use games area and the development of an access road, with additional parking for disabled users. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Further developments and improvements planned at Tonypandy Community College over the next two years include brand-new teaching facilities for design and technology, complete refurbishment and the remodelling of the Science faculty with brand-new, state-of-the-art laboratories and refurbishment of the remainder of the school buildings. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There will also be a brand-new facility for primary aged children who will join the new 3-16 school once it is opened. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “Good progress is being made with the re-development of Tonypandy Community College – which will see it open in September 2018 as a 3-16 school. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Over the summer period, lots of work was carried out internally, including significant improvements to the Learning Resource Centre, which is now being enjoyed by staff and teachers alike. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The next milestone for the project will be the completion of the 3G pitch which will of course have significant benefits for the school and the wider community.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The substantial investment is supported by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme and forms part of the Council’s wider £200m, three-year, RCTinvest programme, which sees investment in Schools, Play Areas, Highways, Leisure, Towns and Villages across the County Borough. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
