Pupil Designs Poster For World Heritage Day
A pupil from Blaenavon Heritage School has designed a poster to advertise World Heritage Day which will be displayed by shops in the town in the run up to the event.
School council member Kodi Watchen came up with the winning design as part of a competition run by the Blaenavon World Heritage Committee.
The design was turned into a poster by Nick Horler from local craft shop Artie Craftie, and Blaenavon Town Council had them printed and distributed to local shops.
The Mayor of Blaenavon Town Council, Alan Jones, said: “The children all came up with some fantastic ideas. Kodi’s design really captured the essence of the town and will look fantastic in local shops.
“I must say thank you to the World Heritage Committee for running this competition and to Artie Craftie for bringing the design to life.”
The World Heritage Committee have worked closely with the school council to plan the event, which takes place on Saturday 25 June from 11am.
It includes a fun fair, live music and entertainment, and food craft stalls.
The popular Heritage Costume Parade starts at 1.00pm from the top of Broad Street and proceeds through the town. The theme for this year’s parade is ‘‘Blaenavon Then and Now’, celebrating the town’s industrial past, but also what makes the town unique today.
