A new campaign is to be launched for women and girls across Torfaen to encourage them to become more active, more often. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

#ifyougoIgo will see a range of activities taking place all focused on breaking down some of the barriers that prevent women and girls from living more active lifestyles. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

As part of the campaign we will: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

  • Listen to women who want to be more active, understand the reasons why they’re not doing as much activity as they would like and do what we can to make it as easy as possible
  • Promote exercise, and not just sport – national research shows that not everyone wants to be competitive, but that shouldn’t stop you taking part in regular exercise.
  • Show that exercise is the ‘norm’ for women of all ages, sizes and faiths and communities – it’s about the right people, in the right place at the right time.

To start the campaign off we need your support. If you are a girl or women in Torfaen, whether you’re a gym addict or someone who wants to be more active, but can’t find the time, we want to hear from you. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Bridie Cobley, Torfaen Sports Development officer, said: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We know we have lots of girls and women in Torfaen who want to be more active but for lots of reasons they find it difficult. Whether it’s lacking the confidence to join a class or go for a run for the first time, to struggling to find the time in their busy lives to do as much as they would like. Our campaign will work with women and girls in our communities to tackle some of these barriers and make it as easy as possible for them to become more active, more often.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
