Plans Lodged for Beer Garden at The White House Country Inn in Sennybridge

PLANS to legitimise a beer garden at a country pub near Brecon have been lodged with Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority planners. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Andrew Davies of AV Plant limited has submitted retrospective plans to change of use of land to accommodate a beer garden, as well as the provision of toilet block and covered walkway, decking and car park extension, at a field near The White House Hotel in Sennybridge.
The property is also known as The White House country inn. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Documents lodged with the application show that part of the beer garden is a greenfield site and the work to create it took place in June. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Planning agents Asbri planning  have explained the proposal in a planning and green infrastructure statement. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Asbri said: “The site is land associated with The White House Hotel which comprises of a car park to the front and the adjoining field, which sits between the pub and the village and extends to the north and east.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The site is just under 4800 square metres. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Asbri continued: “The land is level from the patio to the side of the pub which is to the east and to the west of the site the land slopes gently towards the village. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The proposal seeks a material change of use of the land to provide a beer garden for the pub, improved WC (toilet) provision and car park extension along with a patio and decking. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The aim being to improve the offer the pub provides and secure its long-term viability. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The beer garden is modest in size and has been designed to complement the existing use of the pub and complement its surroundings.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Asbri said that in the past there had been a beer garden to the east of the car park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Asbri explained:  “This site was poorly located in terms of proximity to the bar area and required walking across the car park, it was also adjacent to the busy A40 trunk road. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The relocation is considered to be far more appealing from the perspective of customers, being a more pleasant experience which is more convenient to access. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The site of the proposed development is also more convenient for bar and waiting staff and will aid in the more efficient operation of the pub. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The pub has “very limited” existing toilet facilities for customers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Due to this the proposal includes building a “Wernick” toilet block next to the building and a covered walkway and deck provided which will be clad in timber. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A decision on the application is expected by October 7. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
