Reading Challenge Winner Announced
Isla Hughes from Ysgol Panteg has been announced as the lucky winner of a prize draw for children who completed the Summer Reading Challenge 2016 – The Big Friendly Read.
More than 930 children across Torfaen took part in the challenge to read six library books or more over the summer holidays.
They could read any books they liked: non-fiction books, stories, joke books, picture books, and audio books and e-books also counted, as long as they were borrowed from the library. The purpose of the challenge is to ensure that children’s reading skills don’t dip over the summer holidays.
Avid reader Isla, aged 8, was drawn from the 450 children who completed the challenge and was presented with a Google Nexus tablet by the Mayor of Torfaen Veronica Crick.
The Summer Reading Challenge is organised nationally by the Reading Agency and delivered by local libraries. This year the challenge linked in with celebrations across the UK to mark the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth.
