Torfaen’s GCSE Results
In Torfaen, 52.9 per cent of pupils achieved the Level 2 threshold (5 GCSE A* – C including English or Welsh and Maths), which is a reduction of 3.8 per cent from last year and the first decline in this key indicator in five years.
Overall, 78.5 per cent of pupils achieved the Level 2 threshold (5 GCSE A*- C), a decrease of 4.6 per cent from last year’s figure of 83.1 per cent.
The executive member for education, councillor David Yeowell, said: “I have visited many schools today and as always it was great to see so many pupils collecting outstanding results and celebrating with their friends, parents and staff.
‘We have seen good improvement in the results in Croesyceiliog Comprehensive and improvements in Level 1 and 2 results in many schools. However, on the headline Level 2 inclusive outcome, the results are not what we expected and disappointing after an improved performance in A levels.
‘We will be working very closely with colleagues in schools and the Education Achievement Service to understand why we did not achieve expected outcomes this year and will put measures in place to see improvement in a year’s time.”
