USW To Host Welsh Assembly During #Seneddnewport Week
The National Assembly for Wales will host a series of events in Newport, between March 20-25 , in its latest campaign to engage with people in their own communities.
The #SeneddNewport week is part of the Assembly’s drive to involve more people in its work and show how elected members represent them.
During the week Newport will host two formal Assembly committee meetings at the University of South Wales’s Newport City campus.
Youth engagement and outreach teams will also work with various schools, colleges and community groups, as well as at the Friars Walk shopping complex to inform people about how the Assembly works and how they can get involved.
“With more and more powers being devolved to Wales it is crucial that everyone has their say on what sort of Wales they want,” said Elin Jones AM, the Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales.
“We are coming to Newport because I believe it is important that we hear the hopes and aspirations that people have for themselves and their community.
“The mix of events we have planned will provide opportunities to learn about why the Assembly is important and how to contribute to and shape the issues we are discussing on your behalf.”
The National Assembly is partnering with the South Wales Argus and the University of South Wales to deliver #SeneddNewport week.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Wales, Professor Julie Lydon OBE, said: “As a University we think it’s really important for us to be part of our communities’ civic life, and we’re delighted to be hosting #SeneddNewport in this spirit.
“As well as transforming individual lives and being a major employer, we play a critical role offering policy makers and citizens the opportunity to engage with research and education and share ideas that have a positive impact on our region’s economy and public services.
“As USW’s Chancellor, Rowan Williams, puts it, our most important impact as a University is to offer the chance for citizens to engage with great issues in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Bringing the National Assembly to Newport is part of this commitment.”
