Barry’s Holton Road Primary School is, this autumn, receiving cleaning and refurbishment work as part of the on-going regeneration work being carried out for the Castleland Renewal Area scheme. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Holton Road Primary School lies within the renewal area, and has been scaffolded in preparation for work that will provide a much-needed ‘facelift’. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The renovation of the school comprises of cleaning, and a refurbishment of the sandstone features of the building together with the pier-caps and copings of the boundary wall. The vegetation growing out of the walls will be removed and all external woodwork and original rainwater goods will be redecorated, as part of the cleaning and enhancement programme. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The scheme, jointly-funded by both the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Welsh Government, forms part of the Castleland Renewal Area programme of works for 2016-17, and will complement the on-going regeneration of the upper section of Barry’s Holton Road. The scheme aimed to see a comprehensive renovation of properties within the area, and has already seen a rolling programme of ‘Facelift Schemes’ for housing, as well as King Square being redeveloped. The work on Holton Road Primary School is due to be completed within 16 weeks and is being carried out by local company Pinit Building and Civil Engineering Ltd. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, commented on the renewal work: “The whole scheme represents the Council’s commitment to the area – not only Holton Road, but across the whole Castleland area – and its resolve to reverse any decline seen in the town centre and the surrounding residential areas over the years. Holton Road Primary School is the latest to receive work that will improve the appearance of its building; I hope that all pupils, when returning for the Autumn Term, will be pleased to see that their school is being looked after.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
