Dafen Gym Rows Length Of Wales To Help WAA Build Home
A Dafen gym is helping Wales Air Ambulance to build its very first owned home by completing a gruelling rowing challenge across the length of Wales.
The Robert Davies Gym will row from Anglesey to Cardiff against the clock to raise funds for the charity’s Airbase Appeal, which will fund the build of a purpose-built hangar and helipad in Dafen.
The gym is helping Wales Air Ambulance build their first owned airbase by raising money for the charity’s Airbase Appeal through a fitness challenge which will cover almost 140 miles.
Dan Stanley, a personal trainer KickStartPT at the Robert Davies Gym, will be leading a team of experienced rowers to row the length of Wales on a static rowing machine, hoping to set a record.
Dan said: “I’m looking forward to seeing us succeed in not only covering the distance but doing as quickly as we can.
“I think Wales Air Ambulances’s move to Dafen is a real opportunity for both WAA and the people of Llanelli to create a lasting partnership.
“I feel that the service the charity provides is an absolute necessity given the rural landscape of Wales. The very fact that the air ambulance can be on scene so quickly means the they really are saving lives!”
The team of dedicated rowers will cover the distance between Llanlleia, Anglesey, and Rhoose, Cardiff, equating to 238km, all in aid of Wales Air Ambulance’s Airbase Appeal.
The charity’s appeal aims to raise £500,000 to help WAA build its very first owned home in Dafen, Llanelli, which will save the charity thousands in rent and fuel costs, and help to secure their future.
The Airbase Appeal will help to fund the build of a purpose-built hangar and helipad to suit Wales Air Ambulance’s pioneering operations, which are recognised across the world.
The new airbase facilities are currently under construction in Llanelli gate, and are being funded entirely by charitable donations to the Airbase Appeal.
The Robert Davies Gym, which is based near the new site, have put together a team of advanced rowers to attempt the distance in record time and fundraise to help build Wales Air Ambulance’s new home.
The new Dafen airbase will bring the charity’s fundraising team and operations together for the first time, as well as establishing a permanent home for the charity.

“Their rowing challenge is a unique way of raising lifesaving funds, and helps to demonstrate how quickly Wales Air Ambulance can travel the distance of Wales.
