Darth Mannion Raises Over £12,000 In Lifesaving Donations
People from all over Wales gathered in the Gower for an adrenaline-fuelled run, tackling a 12 mile route across the beauty spot in aid of Wales Air Ambulance.
The Darth Mannion Beach and Swamp Run 2016 on Saturday 12 March took participants over rough terrain, up hills and even in the sea to raise lifesaving funds for the Welsh helicopter charity.
Starting from the South Gower RFC, the keen runners made their way through Bishopston, the Three Cliffs Bay and Brandy Cove Bay to finish back at the RFC to recover.
The run challenge was a 12 mile route of challenging running, with regular dips in the freezing cold water.
After the event, competitors, family and friends were welcomed to the South Gower Rugby Club to warm up, and raise further funds for Wales Air Ambulance.
A hog roast, raffle and auction were held in aid of the Welsh helicopter charity.
The event raised over £12,000 for Wales Air Ambulance, which would fund eight lifesaving missions.
Bidders were able to get their hands on an Albert Square sign which was signed by Eastenders 2013 cast, a Lions Jersey signed by Alun-Wyn Jones, a rugby ball singed by Dan Bigger and tickets to see Madness in Cyfarthfa Castle, with all the proceeds going towards the charity.
Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, took part in the event, running the 12 mile off-road route across the Gower.
Mark said: “The community nature of the event is not only shown in their fundraising for Welsh charities, but also because every participant pulls together to ensure that no one is left behind.
“We cannot thank the Darth Coastal Runners enough for their generous fundraising for Wales Air Ambulance. Their donation will help us to complete our lifesaving missions and keep our helicopters flying.”
