Family Hikes Pen Y Fan In Memory Of Ashley Talbot
A family hiked South Wales’ tallest peak in memory of schoolboy Ashley Daniel Talbot, and in aid of the helicopter charity that flew to his aid.
Natasha Talbot lead a group of family and friends up Pen y Fan, to place a photo of her brother at the stone on top of the famous Welsh peak.
The walk raised funds for Wales Air Ambulance, the helicopter charity who flew to Maesteg school to help Ashley.
The 15-year-old from Neath Port Talbot was involved in a road traffic accident in Maesteg school in 2014. WAA’s crew were first to the scene, but sadly Ashley passed away from his injuries.
Melanie Talbot said: “We as a family will be forever grateful to Wales Air Ambulance for what they did to try and save Ashley.
“Sadly, Ashley passed away at the scene.
“We will always be grateful to Wales Air Ambulance, who were first on scene with our son.
“All proceeds from any future events will be donated to Wales Air Ambulance in Ashley Daniel Talbot’s name.”
The Talbot family have been fundraising for the charity since the accident last year, hosting a fancy dress live music night on what would be Ashley’s eighteenth birthday.
In September, the Talbot family and friends raised over £250 by trekking up Pen y Fan to fundraise for the Welsh helicopter charity.
Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “We are incredibly touched that the Talbot family have been raising funds for us in Ashley’s memory.
“We are honoured that they would think of us at this difficult time.
“Each of our missions cost around £1,500, and we need to raise £6 million every year to fund our services.
“With the support of people like the Talbot family, we can keep our helicopters flying across Wales.”
