The Wales Air Ambulance Charity offers talks to communities all over Wales, raising awareness for their lifesaving missions and operations which is funded by charitable donations.
A Wales Air Ambulance talk was held for the South Wales Mining Beneficiaries in the Gorseinon at the District Work’s Club on April 5.
Paul Canning, South Wales Fundraising Coordinator of Wales Air Ambulance, directed a presentation to the club’s members, discussing the charity’s pioneering techniques and helicopter operations across the country.
The cost of running the service is £6 million per year, with each lifesaving missions costing £1,500, and the funds are raised through kind donations from the people of Wales.
17 club members from the area attended the talk, and after listening to the lifesaving work that Wales Air Ambulance does, they decided to collect for the charity.
On the night, £55 was raised by the South Wales Mining Beneficiaries for Wales Air Ambulance, helping the charity to fund the 2,000 missions they respond to every year.
Paul Canning said, “We supply these talks around Wales to help people understand the service that we provide to the Welsh public, and raise awareness.
“Many people don’t realise that WAA is a charity, and many of the miners and people involved in the mining community that attended the talk did not realise this.
“By talking to community groups, we can get people involved in the fundraising side of our work and we also get to meet people who have been affected by the service.
“The people of Wales play a vital role in the charity, and its lifesaving operations, and we wouldn’t be able to keep our helicopters flying without their support.”
