For 15 years, an Ellesmere man has dedicated his time to raising lifesaving funds for a variety of charitable causes, and his fundraising efforts are being recognised.
Rod Evans has been put forward in the Best Fundraiser category of the Oswestry and Border Counties Advertiser’s Community and Business Awards.
Rod has been cycling Wales in aid of charities for the last 15 years, and his latest fundraisers have raised thousands for Wales Air Ambulance.
The keen cyclist is a dedicated supporter of the Welsh helicopter charity, and has conquered many cycling challenges in aid of the charity.
His latest fundraiser took him on a 400-mile bike tour of Wales, completed in four days, followed by a hike up Wales’ tallest mountain and a zip wire challenge.
Lynne Garlick, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “Without the amazing support we receive from people like Rod, we wouldn’t be able to keep our helicopters flying.
“We are incredibly pleased to hear that he has been shortlisted for the Best Fundraiser award, as his hard work definitely deserves to be recognised!”
Rod’s 3 Epic Challenges of Wales was a three-part fundraiser, which included a 400-mile cycle through the stunning welsh countryside, ending at the Wales Air Ambulance base in Llanelli.
The challenge also included battling the elements during a hike up Snowdon, and a 500ft-high zip line.
Rod collected sponsorship from friends and family to complete his challenges, in aid of two charities, including Wales Air Ambulance.
Lynne said: “Each of our lifesaving missions cost around £1,500 and they are funded through support from the people of Wales.
“We are incredibly grateful to Rod for his outstanding support, and we are so happy to hear that he has been shortlisted as Best Fundraiser in this year’s Community and Business Awards.”
