Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training students sweep the board

​Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training (HCT) Under-19 Students recently swept the board in the Urdd Prelim competition held at the Llanbadarn Learning Centre, coming first, second and third in the age category competition. The winner goes forward to represent Ceredigion in the final that is taking place in Flint in June. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Urdd prelim competitions for hairdressing were held at HCT on Wednesday 13 April 2016, with two age category competitions held under the theme of musical theatre. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Winner of the under 19s competition was HCT learner Bayley Harries with her model Emma Mather as Princess Fiona from Shrek. Second place went to another HCT learner, Niamh Houghton, for Mary Poppins (Trina Bruce model) and third place went to HCT learner Molly James Edwards with Jago from the musical Hairspray (Joriah Farmery model). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In the over 19s category, HCT learner Rebecca Duggan came second with model Sam Keegan done up as a character from Cats. Winners of the prelims will go on to compete in the national Urdd Eisteddfod that is being held in Flint from 30 May to 4 June 2016. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In addition, on Sunday 10 April apprentice Christa Smyth-Ellis who studies the HCT’s NVQ Level 2 hairdressing came second in the prestigious Salon Cymru competition held in Cardiff. Salon Cymru is Wales’ largest hairdressing competition and is heavily contested, with Christa coming second in the Celtic-themed bridal hair class. Christa was presented with her second place award by the famous hairdresser Patrick Cameron. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Anna Prytherch Manager for Post-14 Vocational Learning at HCT said: “I would like to congratulate all the students for doing such amazing designs and for achieving great results. They have really put HCT on the hairdressing training map and i am very proud of their accomplishments. Good luck to them with the future competitions!” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
