Fatal House Fire – Tan-Yr-Allt, Alltwen, Pontardawe

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house fire at Lon Tan-yr-Allt, Pontardawe shortly after 1.40am on (Wednesday 27 July 2016) in which a 4 year old boy sadly died. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Crews from Pontardawe and Morriston were mobilised to a two storey property at Lon Tan-yr-Allt, Alltwen shortly after 1.40am following reports of a fire at a property in which two children were believed to still be inside. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

On arrival, Crews were met with an intense fire and quickly set out to rescue the two children reported to still be inside the property. Crews, equipped with Breathing Apparatus, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera safely rescued a three year old boy from the property, while sadly, a second child, a four year old boy was rescued but tragically died at the scene. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The fire was successfully contained within the property, preventing it from spreading to adjoining houses. Additional Appliances from Morriston Fire Station were also mobilised to provide support to the fire crews at the scene. At 02:36hrs, Control were informed that fire-fighting action had been completed and that all persons were accounted for. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A joint investigation with South Wales Police is now underway to determine the cause of fire. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
