NPT Homes have kindly allowed Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to use the premises for training exercises before it is due for demolition. The venue is ideal for crews to train in realistic situations and practice new search and rescue techniques, under the New National Operational Guidance for Breathing Apparatus, being introduced nationally in the Fire Service. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The exercise was created to simulate a fire in a residential nursing home with a substantial amount of rooms and areas to search wearing breathing apparatus. Crew from Pontardawe, Neath, Cymmer, Seven Sisters, Amman Valley, Port Talbot and Glynneath with several officers attended. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Station Manager Simon Pearson commented, “We are grateful to NPT homes, who have allowed us to use the venue, and also to the residents for putting up with us!” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Feedback from the crews who took part in the exercise on Wednesday evening has been positive, this training will ensure our firefighters and officers in Neath and Port Talbot are fully prepared for all types of premises in our area.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
