Day Visits Survey Show A Busy Year For Wales

Day visit figures show that more people are visiting Wales for a day trip and spending more on their trips. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Great Britain Day Visit Survey published today shows that in the 12 months ending August 2016, there were 94.2 million tourism day visits to Wales, with an associated spend of £3,516 million. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This shows an increase by 24.4% compared to the previous 12 months, while the amount spent has increased by 32.5% ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Spend per visit is now higher in Wales than in GB as a whole, with an average spend of £37 per visit in Wales, compared with £35 per visit across GB. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Secretary for the Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“These figures give a useful snapshot on tourism performance and it’s excellent news that such a big increase has been reported for the peak summer months. The increase in day visits also supports the industry feedback from our Tourism Barometer in which 84% of businesses taking part in the survey reported that they had been busier or as busy as 2015 – which was a record breaking year for Wales. The work now continues to attract people to Wales during the autumn and winter months.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
