Dedicated Swansea RSPCA Inspector Presented With Honour
An RSPCA inspector from South Wales has been presented an award in recognition of special merit and ability.
RSPCA inspector Neill Manley, who covers the Swansea area, was awarded The Anderson-Plumbe Award at the RSPCA Honours ceremony on Saturday (18 June).
The Anderson-Plumbe Award is presented to inspectors in recognition of special merit and ability.
Inspector Manley has served with the RSPCA for 19 years and is an active and long-serving member of the rope rescue team, boat team, the Flood Rescue Team and is one of three officers with specialist knowledge in exotic animals in Wales.
Inspector Manley has also been heavily involved in tackling horse issues around Swansea, where he has been proactive in dealing with tethered horses matters and horses grazing on the tidal estuary.
RSPCA chief executive Jeremy Cooper said “Neill has shown a lasting passion and commitment to his work, and is certainly making a significant contribution to animal welfare in Wales.
“He is a very experienced hands-on field officer and is recognised for his expertise and commitment by colleagues, but also by outside agencies and organisations.”
Inspector Manley said he was delighted to receive the award.
“I’m very grateful and proud to receive the award and I feel it reflects well on all the hard work of my group of dedicated colleagues who are constantly working to help animals in distress and improve animal welfare,” he said.
For more than 100 years, the RSPCA Honours have been given to recognise people and organisations who’ve helped us in our goal to end cruelty, protect animals from abuse and further our knowledge of animal welfare.
This year 19 people who had gone the extra mile for animals were awarded with RSPCA Honours including:
Two men who saved a much-loved cat from a house fire
A police officer who worked tirelessly to save 33 dogs from squalid conditions
An American woman who has improved the lives of millions of farm animals with an assurance scheme
An undercover RSPCA inspector who helped crack an illegal puppy selling ring making £35,000-a-week
The RSPCA Honours ceremony was held on Saturday 18 June at The Law Society in London which was especially appropriate as 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the Animal Welfare Act. Since it’s introduction the RSPCA has helped more than 150,000 cats and dogs.
