Conwy’s Sports Stars Shine

Conwy’s top athletes have once again gained well deserved recognition at this year’s Sports Awards. Held annually in Venue Cymru the event awards the County’s best sports people for the year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

2016 categories include, Junior Sportsman, Junior Sportswoman, Junior Sports Team, Young Volunteer, Conwy Schools Award, Special Achievement, Senior Sportsman, Senior Sportswoman, Senior Sports Team, Coach of the Year, Services to Sport, Junior Adventurer, Senior Adventurer and Veteran Adventurer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Hundreds of applications are received every year which are then painstakingly whittled down to the finalists for each category. Over 300 people came together on the night to eagerly await who would take home the trophies. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Competition was tough, but if anybody can be prepared for that its sport people all of which are experts in their discipline. Many previous winners have gone on to professional sport level and this year is no different. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Graham Rees, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure said “Every year I’m astounded at the dedication of our local sports people. They are a true inspiration and the finalists have proven again and again to be the ones to watch. I’m always so proud to live in a County that supports as well as recognises the talents and achievements of our athletes. Well done all.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
