Enjoying Gwynedd’s Coastline Responsibly

The litter that was collected from the Gimblet Rock area of the Marian y De beach in Pwllheli ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Gwynedd Council is urging those enjoying the county’s beaches to respect and protect the natural environment and to take their litter home with them when they leave. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This follows an incident in which the Council’s Maritime Unit were called out by a concerned local resident who saw that a significant number of glass bottles had been deliberately broken and left on the beach at Marian y De in Pwllheli. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Barry Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Maritime and Country Parks Officer said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As a county, we have over 300 miles of fantastic coastline, and we are grateful to the vast majority of people who respect the local environment and dispose of their litter in a responsible manner. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Unfortunately, we recently received a call from a very concerned local resident who came across a number of smashed glass bottles that had been left on the popular Gimblet Rock area of the beach at Marian y De. This could have caused a very serious injury. With the kind assistance of the local resident we ensured that the broken glass was cleared away immediately. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Broken glass on soft sand is extremely dangerous, especially as this is a very popular location for families and the public at large. We would urge those responsible to take responsibility for their litter and respect the local environment, by either disposing of litter in nearby public bins or taking the litter home.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
