Gwynedd Community Chest has allocated a total of £13,913 to ten sports clubs and organisations in the county during the first meeting of the financial year. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The grant money that Gwynedd Community Chest is allocating, along with Gwynedd Council’s Healthy Gwynedd objective to promote fitness, will help to promote sports clubs and organisations in the county and help to provide better sports opportunities for the county’s residents. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gwynedd Community Chest grants provide support for various clubs and organisations relating to sports across the county, such as cricket clubs, rugby clubs, gymnastics clubs, walking clubs, cycling clubs, climbing clubs and many more. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Healthy Gwynedd, said: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The purpose of Gwynedd Community Chest is to support and promote a variety of sports in every part of the county. As a Council, we acknowledge the importance and the need for sports clubs and organisations in our communities, and it is important that we provide as much support as possible for them to succeed. It is extremely encouraging that the Community Chest grants continue to help the majority of the sports clubs and organisations in Gwynedd. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We encourage any sports club or organisation in Gwynedd that believes that it is eligible to receive financial support from Gwynedd Community Chest to submit an application as soon as possible. A grant like this can ensure the success and development of your club or organisation in this current challenging financial period.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

At the latest Gwynedd Community Chest meeting, grants were allocated to the following sports clubs and organisations: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Welsh Traditional Karate Federation (providing qualifications for the area’s/Gwynedd Karate Club Coaches on First Aid and Child Protection courses) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Dwyfor Health Walks (Fund equipment to establish Nordic Walking for the Trefor Walking Group) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Glaslyn Adventure Club, Porthmadog (Training courses to qualify new members for climbing coaching) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Bethesda Cricket Club (Equipment and Training Courses to develop cricket for more children and for women) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Energy Cycling Club in the Arfon/Bangor area (Fund equipment to offer more opportunities for beginners and women) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– North Wales Youth Climbing Academy (Courses to qualify and develop coaches) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Caernarfon Rugby Club (Establish an under-18 Women’s Team) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

– Moelwyn Gymnastics Club (Expand the club – Equipment for more members and courses to qualify/develop coaches) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In addition to these grants, a scheme by a new cricket club that has recently been established in Caernarfon was funded. The club has benefited from a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board and a donation from the Council to fund an artificial wicket on the Coed Helen site on the outskirts of the town. Their recent scheme includes training courses for the volunteers that will enable them to provide high quality training sessions for the area’s children and for women as well as the men. The Community Chest has also funded equipment for these sessions that will enable them to make full use of the new wicket and the enthusiasm of local residents. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A Report on Gwynedd Community Chest 2015-16 is attached with this statement, which shares information on how much funding was allocated locally, to whom, in which fields and in which parts of Gwynedd. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

If you intend to submit an application for the Gwynedd Community Chest meeting on 6 June, the application will need to be submitted by 23 May, but there will be several opportunities to submit an application during the financial year, with the last opportunity to submit an application on 16 January 2017. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
