Carson’s Special Visit To Police
A nine-year-old boy battling a rare form of terminal muscular dystrophy had his wish granted when he joined North Wales Police on patrol.
Carson Jones, who lives in Rhyl, recently joined the Roads Policing Unit and visited the police helicopter base at Hawarden.
Carson is a huge fan of fast cars, and in particular police cars and also loves the police helicopter and his Dad, David Jones, contacted police through the force website to ask if a visit could be accommodated.
Mr David Jones said: “We just want to thank everyone involved at North Wales Police for making this happen for Carson. He loved riding with PC Williams in the patrol car and sitting in the police helicopter.”
Carson, who is wheelchair bound with no use of his legs, was collected by PC Arfon Williams of the Roads Policing Unit, and taken for a ride in the marked BMW X5 to the helicopter base at Hawarden. PC Williams spoke to him about the role of the police and about the various fleet of vehicles available to the Roads Policing Unit.
After arriving at the airbase he met the crew of the National Police Air Service who talked to him about the aircraft and the work they do as a team. At one point Carson sat in the helicopter to have his photograph taken.
Carson was handed a small goody bag with pens, keyrings and colouring packs before they travelled back to his home in Rhyl.
Sergeant Tony Gatley from North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit coordinated the visit by Carson and his family. He said: “Carson is an inspiration and it was an absolute pleasure to accommodate his visit. It was especially pleasing to see that we could bring a smile to a little boy’s face and give him a great morning to remember.”
