Celebrating The International White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day is getting closer! On the 25th of November we are celebrating the international day opposing violence against women and girls.
North Wales Police has been awarded White Ribbon status, and with four representatives being accredited as ambassadors, the force will help raise the profile and influence of the campaign nationally and locally.
White Ribbon Ambassadors are men who take a stand against all male violence against women and girls, and encourage other men and boys to do so too, by talking about the campaign, hosting events and generally promoting the campaign.
PC George Howat, who was recently accredited as an ambassador, said: “Most men are not violent towards women, but many of us ignore the problem, or see it as something which doesn’t have anything to do with us. We need to join women and women’s organisations in taking action to end the problem.”
Men have a vital role to play in creating a culture where it is unacceptable, and in taking active steps to challenge male violence against women and girls in their families, workplaces and communities – on White Ribbon Day and all year!
“Both men and women should be empowered to discuss the issues of violence, exploitation, and abuse. We must show that this is not just one gender’s issue. Together we must create an environment wherein gender-based violence is unacceptable.”
