PC 3074 Mike Smith’s conscientiousness and diligence has earned him the Chief Constable’s Cup at this year’s Force Awards. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

PC Smith has overcome personal difficulties to ensure the community he serves in and around Llandudno gets the highest quality of service. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

During his probation period he was diagnosed with dyslexia, which was having a massive impact on his ability to complete lengthy statements and file preparation, but North Wales Police recognised the difficulties he was having and provided him with the necessary support. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sgt Katie Ellis said: “PC Smith always goes above and beyond. All the files he has completed are of a very high standard and have never required editing or had anything as being identified as unsatisfactory.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“By completing his work to such a high standard he provides an excellent service to every member of the public that he comes into contact with. He can be calm, professional and compassionate but also robust and authoritative – dependant on the situation that he is faced with. This gives the public confidence and reassurance which is often a difficult skill to master for some officers with such little service.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sgt Ellis concluded: “He is an excellent team player who can be relied on individually to make decisions with correct and supported rationale. He has shown enormous potential with investigations throughout his probation and I have no doubt he will only build on this overtime.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

District Inspector Kelly Isaacs added: “PC Smith has gone onto become a dyslexia champion for the force. He has identified the need to offer support and practical advice to colleagues from his first-hand experience of managing dyslexia in the Police environment. He is an asset to both the West Conwy Team and the organisation. He is professional and dedicated to serving our community.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
