Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Sessions
Leisure staff in Conwy could help protect children from abuse.
As part of a partnership with North Wales Police and Barnardo’s, staff from Conwy County Borough Council’s leisure services will receive education to raise their awareness of child sexual exploitation.
The awareness sessions will educate staff of what to look out for in order to identify potential abuse.
The sessions will be given to approximately 90 of Conwy’s staff from its 11 leisure centres, gyms and sports facilities.
The aim of the sessions is not only to raise awareness amongst staff of what child sexual exploitation is, but to also give staff the confidence to respond appropriately if they suspect a child is vulnerable.
As part of National Safeguarding Week 14-18 November, staff in Leisure Centres across Conwy County will be wearing the ‘I am supporting Safeguarding Week’ badges and information will be available in Leisure centres.
Detective Inspector Eryl Roberts commented: “North Wales Police are committed to the protection of children within our communities. Working with our partners, we will continue to seek to improve knowledge and understanding amongst staff of what child sexual exploitation actually is and how we all have a part to play in identifying and tackling this issue.”
Cllr Philip Evans is Conwy’s cabinet member responsible for community safety, and said: “Protecting children from any kind of abuse, or exploitation is of great importance to Conwy County Borough Council.
“Working with both North Wales Police and Barnardo’s, we hope to give our staff these vitally important skills which can educate staff and possibly protect a child from future harm.”
