Land Rover Owners Advised To Stay Vigilant

North Wales Police are warning owners of Land Rover Defenders to ensure their vehicles are kept locked and secure and where possible to increase security following a recent spate of thefts in the Anglesey area which are believed to be linked. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sgt Emma Williams, North Wales Police Community Safety lead for Gwynedd and Anglesey said “Over the last three weeks 3 Land Rover Defenders have been stolen from across Anglesey. Two were stolen whilst parked up during the day and one overnight from the Beaumaris, Four Crosses and more recently, 28th August, the South Stack area of Holyhead. At each of the scenes there is no evidence of smashed glass and as the vehicles had been secured by their owners one possibility we are examining is offenders had a duplicate key or other similar device. ” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It may therefore be prudent to think about steering locks or other security measures. All three, which are dark blue and 1990’s models, are still outstanding and it is likely the registration numbers have been altered but the vehicles may still be local so we are keen to hear from anyone who has recently seen Land Rover Defenders particularly in suspicious circumstances.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sergeant Williams concluded “It is really important vehicle owners take steps to deter opportunists and avoid becoming a victim of crime. Please take a little extra time to check your vehicle when you leave it and if possible, remove all items of value and lock the vehicle ensuring any alarm or immobiliser is activated.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our investigations will continue however it must be stressed that we need assistance from our local communities to reduce incidents of this nature and identify those responsible in the first instance. Remain vigilant at all times, always ensure your property is locked and secured and if you see any suspicious behaviour contact police immediately” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
