North Wales Police Support Tour Of Britain
North Wales Police officers joined the party atmosphere in and around Denbigh today as the town geared up for the start of the prestigious Tour of Britain.
In partnership with Denbighshire County Council and other agencies, police officers got involved with a host of activities at the start of Stage 4 of the grueling race, to entertain the crowds and to promote cycling and well-being related activities.
As the crowds lined the streets in support of the cyclists, Inspector Glen Brumby and PC Llyr Hughes could be seen cycling around the town, while PCSOs were busy undertaking bike safe marking.
“It was a very positive day for Denbigh. There was a party atmosphere throughout the town and there was lots of engagement with the crowds,” said Insp Brumby, adding that there were no reports of crime at the event.
The race started in Denbigh town centre at 10.30am, and headed towards Bodfari before moving into Flintshire – through the centre of Mold and into Pontblyddyn, Coed Talon and Treuddyn. It re-entered Denbighshire near Llandegla and the cyclists then travelled along the A5104 through Bryneglwys and on to the A5 at Corwen before turning for Cynwyd and Llandrillo. They then made their way towards the Cambrian Mountains and down to Builth Wells.
Insp Brumby said: “The whole event was very impressive and professional – a good day was had by everyone involved.”
