Operation Launched To Target Off Road Bikes
Increased patrols are taking place around an Anglesey village to target the illegal use of motorbikes and quad bikes.
Over recent weeks North Wales Police have received numerous complaints that bikes are damaging greenery and destroying habitats of wildlife in the Rhosneigr and Cymyran areas.
Specially-designed posters have been designed and distributed to all the local camping and caravanning sites and patrols are being increased in the area.
PCSO Danni Power from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The use of motorcycles and quad bikes are a serious concern to the local community due to the lasting damage they cause to the natural environment as well as increased risk of injury to members of the public.
“These riders show little regard for the safety of others and we want to re-iterate that this type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Anybody caught riding illegally can face having their vehicle seized where it could possibly end up being destroyed.”
Police have the power to seize bikes and cars which are used in a way which causes harassment, alarm or distress. A warning is given first but if that fails to be effective and the vehicle is used in an anti-social manner again, it will be seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act. Vehicles can also be seized if the rider is not insured or has no road tax.
PCSO Power added: “This operation will benefit from information received from members of the public and we are urging anybody who witnesses the illegal use of motorcycles or quad bikes in the area to contact us.”
