Police Investigate Possible Pet Poisoning

North Wales Police are investigating after a number of pet cats are suspected to have been poisoned yesterday, Sunday 31st July 2016, in the Lon Cadfan area of Prestatyn. Yesterday evening a member of the public reported their pet cat had been poisoned and died and local officers received reports of a further death and of a cat and dog currently being treated at a local vets for suspected poisoning. All are from the same area of Prestatyn. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

PC Dave Allen of the Force’s Rural Crime Team is managing the Police response and confirms an investigation is underway. He said “Early indications point towards the animals having been poisoned and possibly with anti-freeze but at this stage we are keeping an open mind on it being a deliberate act or accidental. I have visited the area this morning but can find no trace of an obvious source or deliberate ‘trap’ or bait but our enquiries will continue.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“In the meantime I’d ask local residents to check they have no chemical or other substance lying open in their gardens or outbuildings which may cause harm to pets or to take preventative measures by either covering or disposing of appropriately.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
