Police Target Vehicles Ignoring Weight Limit
Vehicles ignoring the weight limit on a Wrexham road have been targeted by police during a recent road safety operation.
Over recent weeks North Wales Police have received complaints from residents living on the Rossett to Holt road area regarding heavy vehicles travelling over the River Alyn Bridge.
The bridge is subject to a maximum gross weight of 7.5 tonnes and during the recent operation, which involved officers from the Eastern Roads Policing Unit, several vehicles were stopped and advice was issued to the drivers.
Sergeant Anja Macleod from North Wales Police’ Roads Policing Unit said: “We stopped several vehicles prior to them travelling over the bridge and reminded them of the signage which clearly states the weight restrictions. One of these included a tractor where the driver was advised that when laden, he would be committing an offence. He then stated he would use an alternative track.
“We have received several complaints of agricultural and commercial vehicles that are ignoring the restriction and we are gently reminding these drivers to use an alternative route. If overweight vehicles continue to use the bridge we will start enforcement operations – whereby we could issue a Traffic Offence Report( TOR) or a prohibition notice. Please heed the warning.”
