North Wales Police have successfully retained assets worth over £30,000 from a member of a criminal gang who was jailed last year. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Force’ Operation Yonside saw 26 members of a criminal gang sentenced to a combined total of 127 years back in 2015 for their part in conspiring to supply Class A and B controlled drugs into North Wales between 2009 and 2014. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The gang’s ringleader, 37-year-old Gavin Thorman from Caernarfon was jailed for 12 years. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

At Mold Crown Court today (Thursday, July 28th) the Judge Nicolas Parry, via the Proceeds of Crime Act, ordered that Thorman should repay assets worth £30,782.50 which includes two vehicles – a Volkswagen Golf and a Volkswagen Caddy and a speedboat. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Detective Inspector Arwyn Jones said this was all part of Operation Scorpion, North Wales Police’ continuing campaign to hit organised crime ‘where it hurts’. He said: “North Wales Police is comitted to rid the streets of North Wales of those who cause serious harm and pose the greatest risk to our communities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The motivation of organised criminals is often money. They try to accumulate assets and wealth from their crimes and we will do everything in our power to stop them. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Operation Scorpion will continue to focus on those individuals who negatively affect the quality of life and well-being of our communities here in North Wales. No stone will be left unturned in order to identify criminal assets of people involved in serious crime in our area and we will make North Wales a hostile environment for criminals to operate within.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act half goes to the Home Office, with the remaining being used by North Wales Police in the fight against crime and to help improve the quality of life for local communities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
