Sister Of Missing Woman Appeals For Her To Come Home

The sister of a Caernarfon woman who has been missing for over six weeks has made an emotional appeal for her to come home. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

57-year-old Avril Whitfield was last seen on Friday, 1st April, and her family and friends as well as police are increasingly concerned for her safety. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Speaking via a statement read by a police officer, Avril’s sister, Ann has issued a heartfelt video message appealing for her to come home. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In a statement she said: “It has been weeks since you went missing. We need you home with us. You are the rock of our family, me Ricky and Connor need you in our lives. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We all love and miss you very much. Please let us know that you are safe. Please, please contact me or any of your numerous friends.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Police enquiries have revealed a possible sighting of Avril walking next to the roundabout on the A487 near Tesco, Caernarfon at about 9am on April 1st. She was wearing a three-quarter length black coat with the hood up. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She is described as being white, between 5ft 5 and 5ft 6 and of slight build with ginger/red hair worn in a bob. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

So far North Wales Police have carried out numerous enquiries locally with shops, cafes, pubs, supermarkets and bus companies. Posters and leaflets have been distributed across Gwynedd and Anglesey, CCTV has been looked at and numerous searches have taken place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Chief Inspector Richie Green said: “We’ve had over a 1,000 entries on our missing person log involving police officers and PCSO’s across Gwynedd and Anglesey. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Colleagues from the RAF Search and Rescue and the Joint Underwater Search Team have also assisted and we are grateful for their support. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Last month we issued an appeal for residents and businesses in the Caernarfon, Cibyn, Caeathro and Bontnewydd areas to check any sheds and outbuildings to see if there was any recent sign of activity and we are really grateful for everybody’s support and cooperation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He added: “Avril went missing on the first weekend of the school Easter holidays here in Wales and I am also appealing for any holidaymakers who were in the area at the time and who may have seen a woman matching her description to come forward. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We continue to appeal to anybody who may have seen Avril, or who may know of her whereabouts to contact us. If Avril sees this appeal, please make contact with us to let us know that you are safe and well.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
