Double Award Success For Pencoed Primary School

The end of term has been celebrated in style at Pencoed Primary with the school picking up two prestigious awards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In recognition of their commitment to getting the best out of high achieving pupils, the school has achieved the NACE Cymru Challenge Award. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Representatives from NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education) spent time at Pencoed Primary, observing lessons and interviewing pupils, teachers, parents and governors. They were particularly impressed by the school’s strong leadership and the importance placed on the needs of more able learners. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

NACE Chief Executive Sue Riley said: “Pencoed Primary School has worked hard to win the NACE Cymru Challenge Award status. It has shown itself to be committed to developing a school and providing an education where all pupils are challenged to be the best they can be.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pencoed Primary has become the 47th school in Wales and the 372nd school overall to achieve the accreditation from NACE. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

To complete their double award success, the school has also received an ‘E-Safety Mark’ from the South West Grid for Learning Trust in honour of the work they have done to make pupils, parents, carers and staff more aware of the importance of staying safe online. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Delighted with their double success, Pencoed Head teacher Suzanne Sarjeant said: “We are very pleased to have achieved both of these awards. We are committed to providing a learning environment in which all of our pupils can flourish, and the NACE Cymru Challenge Award is recognition of that. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“E-Safety is another priority at our school, and we have integrated e-safety into school policy. We are keen to do all that we can to address the important safeguarding issues that surround these new technologies, whether users are in school, at home, or using mobile devices.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Huw David, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “There have been so many success stories from local schools this year, and it’s great to hear of further outstanding achievements at Pencoed Primary School. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
