Roald Dahl World Record Attempt In Bridgend This Weekend

Hundreds of Willy Wonkas, BFGs and Matildas are expected at Newbridge Fields on Saturday 20 August as Awen Cultural Trust’s Libraries team attempt to stage an unofficial world record attempt to gather the most children dressed as a Roald Dahl character in one place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Trust is calling on local children to dress up as their favourite Dahl character and join them behind Bridgend Life Centre between 11am and 1pm this Saturday. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As well as the record attempt, there will be lots of fun activities including a James and The Giant Peach inspired mini-beast hunt, a Pokemon trail and a special guest appearance from children’s author Mike Brake. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Saturday’s event is part of the ongoing celebrations for the Dahl centenary in Bridgend which has seen libraries staff teaming up with local schools and families to deliver a whole range of events and activities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The annual summer reading challenge, which has been Dahl-inspired this year, has seen a record breaking number of children using the library each week whilst others have taken part in the development of a Revolting Rhymes booklet and the creation of character murals for the Rhiw car park development. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Registration forms for the record attempt, along with further information about all the Dahl centenary celebrations in the borough, is available from Bridgend Library located in Halo’s Life Centre. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
