Children’s Commissioner For Wales Visits Trinity Fields School
Sally Holland, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, visited Trinity Fields School in Ystrad Mynach on Wednesday 16th March.
The Commissioner was given a guided tour by Deputy Head Girl, Sasha Maisey and Head Boy, Lee Morriss, during which she had the opportunity to see a range of equipment and resources available at the school. These included a sensory room, swimming pool and a brand new multi-use games area which enables pupils to play ball games safely within the school grounds.
Following the tour, the Children’s Commissioner spoke to the school council and tasted the delights of Trinity Fields’ very own Caffi Oren.
The visit took place following the Commissioner’s request for the school to pilot the new Super Ambassador Scheme, an initiative which empowers pupils to become the Commissioner’s Ambassadors within their school.
The scheme involves two pupils, elected by their peers, taking a lead role in promoting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNRCR) and the role of the Children’s Commissioner. Super Ambassadors also complete a ‘special mission’ to gather opinions from other pupils on a wide range of issues. This information is then fed into the work of the Commissioner’s office.
Trinity Fields elected Deputy Head Girl, Tammy Stone and Head Boy, Lee Morriss to be the Super School Ambassadors. As a result of this, both pupils have taken part in a number of challenges during the past term for the Commissioner.
Cllr Keith Reynolds, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Well done to Trinity Fields for being selected to pilot the new Super Ambassador Scheme which looks to inform children, teachers and parents about children’s rights, the UNCRC and the Children’s Commissioner for Wales. I look forward to seeing the benefits that this scheme can bring to the school”.
