Car-Free Day Coming To Cardiff

Cardiff University is supporting World Car-Free day on Thursday, 22 September. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cardiff’s residents and commuters are being encouraged to leave their car at home on this day and use alternative ways to travel into and out of Cardiff. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Park Place in Cathays will be closed to all traffic from 20:00 on 21 September until midnight on 22 September to make way for a street market including a transport exhibition to give information and advice on sustainable travel. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cardiff City Council is working with a number of partners including the University to host the event, which will coincide with festivities for Freshers’ Week. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Whether you want information from public transport providers, information on road safety, have your bike security tagged or just want to enjoy the street market – a variety of stalls and exhibitions will be in place for everyone to enjoy. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Ramesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainability, said: “Making walking, cycling and public transport more attractive and viable options for commuters and residents are integral to Cardiff’s continued development and achieving our aspiration to become Europe’s Most Liveable Capital City. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It is encouraging to see all the public transport providers and our other transport partners working with us on this. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
