Cardiff University is offering limited free spaces to runners taking part in one of the UK’s most popular half marathons. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Runners wanting to secure the free places in the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon must pledge to raise funds for the University’s cancer research or dementia & mental health research. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

All 100 per cent of the funds raised by the #TeamCardiff runners will go towards University research in these areas. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The University has been ranked in the top three in the UK for Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience alongside Cambridge and Oxford universities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

While University staff, students and alumni are encouraged to run for #TeamCardiff, the limited free spaces are open to everyone. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

To be eligible runners must pledge to raise at least £150, or £100 for students. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 2 October, last year attracted 22,000 entries making it one of the biggest races of its type in the country. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The University is title sponsor following its successful partnership with the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon in March this year. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The University’s involvement will go way beyond simply providing sponsorship. Public health is a major part of the University’s work and the Cardiff Half ties in with this agenda. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The University not only undertakes world-leading health research, but also trains the people who will become the healthcare professionals of the future. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event is a perfect platform for bringing together people from the health sector and from our local communities to promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The World Half Marathon saw thousands of runners following in the footsteps of 200 elite athletes including double Olympic champion Mo Farah. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

More than 200 people ran as part of the University team, while others carried out a variety of vital tasks as volunteers to support the televised race. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
