Park Place Is Closing To Traffic On Thursday 22 September
Park Place is closing to traffic on Thursday 22 September as the University supports World Car-Free day.
Cardiff City Council is working with a number of partners including the University to host the event, which will coincide with activities for Freshers’ Week.
Cardiff’s residents and commuters are being encouraged to leave their car at home on this day and use alternative ways to travel.
A variety of stalls and exhibitions ranging from sustainable travel to bicycle security will pop up on Park Place, which will be closed from 20:00 on 21 September until midnight on 22 September.
Activities include:
- Farmers’ market
- Food fair
- Cycle registration
- Cycle training
- Cycle maintenance sessions
- Cardiff University Sport will be showcasing facilities available for students and staff, as well as running some low impact training sessions.
- Free raffles for cycling security and safety equipment
Councillor Ramesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainability, said: “Making walking, cycling and public transport more attractive and viable options for commuters and residents are integral to Cardiff’s continued development and achieving our aspiration to become Europe’s Most Liveable Capital City.
“It is encouraging to see all the public transport providers and our other transport partners working with us on this.
“The main message is that we want people to understand there are alternatives available and we want people to visit the exhibition on Park Place on 22 September to find out more.”
We appreciate that the road closure may be inconvenient to some of our staff and students but arrangements have been made to mitigate these effects as far as possible.
