Greeted by Cllr Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, the Royal Party was then taken on a guided tour of the £6.3m Grade II listed outdoor family water attraction, which officially re-opened to the public on August 29, 2015. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

As part of the visit His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall unveiled a plaque to commemorate their visit. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

They were then presented with two replica Wales football kits for Prince George and Princess Charlotte ahead of the Euro 2016 semi-final match between Wales and Portugal, taking place in the evening. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Royal Party also took time to speak to swimmers at poolside before heading into the Waterside Café and Visitor Centre, where they were shown the history of Lido Ponty, the National lido of Wales, which originally opened in 1927. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

With local schoolchildren, who had gathered in Lido Play, the outdoor childrens’ adventure park, spontaneously singing the Welsh National Anthem and the Welsh hymn Calon Lan, the Royal Party came out onto the balcony at Lido Ponty to much applause before making their way back down to the well-wishers. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
