Swansea Academics Present At Dubai Workshop Promoting Green Behaviour For Energy Efficient Workplaces

Academic staff from Swansea University’s School of Management recently took part in a British Council sponsored research workshop in Dubai, which examined employee motivation and engagement for promoting quality green behaviour leading to energy efficient workplaces. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Yogesh Dwivedi, Director of the Emerging Markets Research Centre and Dr Emma Slade, Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research, contributed to the three-day workshop organised by the University of Salford and the University of Wollongong in Dubai, which hosted the event. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The workshop encompassed a range of activities including presentations and discussion sessions on the issues related to green behaviour delivered by academic experts and industry leaders. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Dwivedi and Dr Slade delivered a talk on how to promote and monitor employee green behaviour by utilising Information Technologies/Systems (IT/S), and facilitated one of the session discussions on this theme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

During day two of the workshop, delegates were invited to Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) to meet and discuss with the Chairman, Dr Rashid Alleem. Workshop delegates also had the opportunity to visit Masdar City, an emerging eco-friendly and sustainable city, and Etihad Green Plant. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Yogesh Dwivedi said: “This international workshop was a very successful event and more research on such topics, as well as interaction between academic experts and industry leaders, is vital for developing a sustainable society.
