Council Supports Anti-Poverty Charity with Transfer of Staff

AN anti-poverty charity is being supported by a council with some local authority staff transferring to its employment. 
Torfaen Borough Council has agreed to support the employment costs for a fixed three year period with the Garnsychan Partnership. 
The Blaenavon-based charity and social enterprise aims to improve physical and mental wellbeing, help people adopt healthy behaviours and break cycles of poverty. 
It will be supported for three years by Torfaen Borough Council with the transfer of staff, under TUPE arrangements that protects workers’ terms and conditions, having been agreed by the Labour cabinet member for communities, Councillor Fiona Cross. 
As part of the confidential decision, which was published on August 4, Cllr Cross also approved the transfer of annual grant to the Garnsychan Partnership. 
The financial value of the grant hasn’t been disclosed by the council which said details of the decision hadn’t been made public under an exemption to local government legislation that allows the council to withhold information “relating to a particular individual”. 
A council spokeswoman said: “The transfer is from Torfaen County Borough Council to Garnsychan Partnership. The funding award relates specifically to employee costs for an agreed three-year period.”  ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
