The landscape architects behind a wide ranging plan to manage the upland areas of south east Wales for the benefit of the environment and local communities has been recognised at a national award ceremony.
Cardiff-based TACP Landscape Architects were ‘highly commended’ at the Landscape Institute’s annual award ceremony for their Upland Commons of South-east Wales natural resources management plan.
The plan which was commissioned by Torfaen County Borough Council on behalf of the wider partnership, sets out how the areas can be best managed for the benefit of the local ecosystem, the commoners who use it for grazing, and also how public bodies can work together to tackle off-roading and environmental crime.
It was commissioned by Torfaen council and funded by the Welsh Government from its Nature Fund and led by Torfaen council.
It was praised in particular for the successful collaboration between the different stakeholders required to develop the plan, including Welsh Government, Torfaen County Borough Council, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Brecon Beacons Natural Park Authority, Monmouthshire County Council, Cardiff University, Gwent Wildlife Trust, Gwent Police, Natural Resources Wales, and representatives from Commoners Associations.
Bob Wellington CBE, leader of Torfaen council, said: “We are delighted that TCAP has been recognised for their work in developing this plan.
“The upland areas of south east Wales are ecologically diverse, and much of it is historically important, and this plan will help us to manage this land for future generations.”
