Political Appointments To The Council’s Cabinet
At the annual general meeting of Torfaen council last tonight, all the key political appointments to the council’s cabinet, committees and outside bodies were confirmed for the year ahead.
Council Leader, Cllr Bob Wellington CBE was re-elected alongside his Deputy Leader, Cllr Anthony Hunt.
The other cabinet members have retained their portfolios for the year ahead:
Exec Member for Communities – Cllr David Daniels
Exec Member for Education – Cllr David Yeowell
Exec Member for Health Social Care & Wellbeing – Cllr Richard Clark
Exec Member for Housing Planning and Public Protection – Cllr Gwyneira Clark
Exec Member for Neighbourhoods – Cllr John Cunningham MBE KSG
Exec Member for Regeneration – Cllr Lewis Jones
Exec Member for Resources & Corporate Governance – Cllr Anthony Hunt

Chair of the Healthier Communities O&S Committee – Cllr Ray Mills
Chair of the Safer Communities O&S Committee – Cllr Mike Harris
Chair of the Cleaner Communities O&S Committee – Cllr Mandy Owen
Chair of the Learning Communities O&S Committee – Cllr Colette Thomas
Chair of the Resources & Corporate Business O&S Committee – Cllr Stuart Ashley
Chair of the Planning Committee – Cllr Brian Mawby
Chair of the Licensing Committee – Cllr Neil Waite
Chair of the Pensions Committee – Cllr Mary Barnett
Chair of the Democratic Services Committee – Cllr Jeff Rees
In the Mayor making ceremony which followed the AGM, Cllr Veronica Crick took her oath of allegiance as the new Mayor of Torfaen, replacing the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Giles Davies. Cllr Crick’s husband Colin will be the Mayor’s Consort for her year in office.
Pontnewydd ward councillor, Jessica Powell becomes the new Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor’s charities for her year in office will be Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice, St. David’s Hospice Care and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital based at the Heath Hospital.
