Biology Graduate Honoured At House Of Commons

USW graduate Hannah Jowett has been honoured by the Royal Society of Biology at a special ceremony held at the House of Commons. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Hannah, who graduated in 2015 from the BSc (Hons) International Wildlife Biology, was one of a select group of high-scoring students from around the UK to be honoured by the RSB. After receiving her award, Hannah met leading figures in academia and the biosciences industry. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As part of her degree, she completed a research project on the attitudes of primary school children to nature and wildlife. Hannah is now studying for a teaching qualification so that she can continue to work in biology education. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She is also following in the illustrious footsteps of her mother Susan, whose distinguished services to education were recognised in the Queen’s Honours List when she was made Dame Susan Jowett. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Denis Murphy, Hannah’s project supervisor, said: “It was a privilege to work with Hannah and the other students in her year. It is also gratifying to see one of our students recognised at such an important national event. We wish Hannah a happy and fulfilling career in the future.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
