Maths Lecturer Presents At International Workshop
Dr James Kent, a lecturer in mathematics at USW has been presenting his findings into numerical methods for tracer transport at an international event.
Dr Kent helped to organise the 2016 Dynamical Core Model Intercomparison Project (DCMIP) workshop, held at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.
DCMIP brings together newly developed atmospheric models and provides a series of test cases to assess and intercompare these models. Around 50 multi-disciplinary students and postdocs get hands-on experience of running the models, and a series of lectures explain the design process behind the models.
Topics discussed at the event included:
- Earth System Modeling and the Role of the Atmospheric Component Model
- Numerical Methods in Dynamical Cores
- High-Resolution Atmospheric Modelling
- Tracers in Atmospheric Models
- Physical Parameterizations
- Dynamics-Physics Coupling
- Evaluating Global Atmospheric Models
- Emerging Computational Aspects
- Informing the Science
DCMIP 2016 is sponsored by NCAR’s Computational Information Systems Laboratory (CISL), NOAA, NASA, the Department of Energy (DoE), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
