RHS Visitors To Choose Favourite ‘Great Outdoors’ Picture

Visitors to the RHS Flower Show in Cardiff this weekend are being asked to choose their favourite illustration that promotes the benefits of horticulture to young people.
First year BA (Hons) Illustration students at the University of South Wales (USW) have produced a number of images that illustrate ‘The Great Outdoors’, creating visuals around the theme of plants or planting, gardens or gardening, and horticulture.
The students on the BA (Hons) Illustration course create work that responds to real world problems. This is the second year that USW has worked with the RHS to create a live brief for the illustration students.
“Students were asked to consider how they could use illustration to help reconnect a generation of young people with ‘the great outdoors’,” said Senior Lecturer Sarah Carter.
“The benefits of gardening and being outdoors have been well researched and documented, from increased levels of serotonin, physical activity and feeling connected to the world in which we live.
“Our students were challenged to create images that promote these benefits to a young audience.”
Visitor can vote for their favourite image on Twitter, using the name of the student and #RHSillustration. Also see @uswillustration.
