Senior Citizens Celebrate Festive Season At University Of South Wales
Pensioners from Treforest enjoyed a festive lunch this week as special guests of the University of South Wales.
As well as a three course meal prepared and served by USW catering staff, more than 100 senior citizens who live near the Treforest campus were entertained by the University staff choir, local schoolchildren’s choir and a few games of bingo.
The Christmas carols, sung by pupils at St Michael’s RC Primary School, and some festive favourites sung by the staff choir, provided a musical backdrop to an afternoon of entertainment, organised by staff in the Marketing & Student Recruitment. A raffle held during the day’s festivities also raised £100 for Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.
Party organisers Kate Williams and Sarah Sullivan, from the University, said: “We always enjoy hosting this celebratory event as it’s an opportunity to say thank you to the local residents for the friendliness and support they offer our students.
“The Christmas lunch is an annual fixture in the Treforest social calendar, and once again we were delighted to host the senior citizens for this festive gathering.”
John Callan, one of the guests who attended the lunch, said: “We always have a wonderful time at the University for our annual lunch. It’s something we look forward to every year. The food was wonderful and we loved the entertainment.”
